👉 Whether it’s fake, inappropriate or just plain unfair, seeing a bad review pop up on your Yelp profile can feel frustrating, especially when it doesn’t reflect the real experience you delivered to your customer.
The good news? Yelp does give you a way to flag and report reviews that break their rules.
But not every reported review gets removed, so it’s important to know what qualifies and how the process works.
In this guide, we’ll show you exactly how to flag a review on Yelp, step-by-step.
We’ll also cover what happens after and what to do if Yelp won’t take it down.
Which Yelp reviews can be removed?
📌 Yelp won’t remove a review just because it’s negative or harsh.
But they will remove reviews that clearly break their rules. Here are the most common reasons a review can be flagged:
❌ It wasn’t based on a real customer experience
❌ It includes threats, hate speech or harassment
❌ It was written by a competitor, fake user or spam account
❌ It contains personal or private information
❌ It’s off-topic (e.g. political or social commentary unrelated to your service)
Yelp says they “…generally allow users to stand behind what they write” and don’t “…take sides in factual disputes” (Yelp Support center).
So even if a review feels unfair, it won’t be taken down unless it clearly violates their policies.
If it doesn’t qualify for removal by Yelp, your best next step is to respond professionally. We show you how in our post: How to respond to Yelp reviews.
But if it does qualify for removal, here’s how to flag it.
How to flag a review on Yelp (step-by-step)
Flagging a review is simple once you know how to do it. Here’s how:
- Go to business.yelp.com and log in to your business Yelp account. Make sure it’s the Yelp account responsible for your Yelp business page.
- Go to your business profile and click the “Reviews” tab in the sidebar.
- Find the review you want to flag and click the three dots (…) next to the review.
- Select “Report review” from the dropdown menu.
- Submit the report with the reason that best fits why you’re reporting the review. After reporting, hover over the small flag icon next to the review to check the status.
